Chai Culture Club is thrilled to host a FREE workshop on Creative Mind-Mapping with local visual artist and writer, Margaret Albaugh. This event is open to Asian and Asian American identifying community members ages 18+. We will have other opportunities open to the public in the future.

Creating written work (poetry or prose) around our experience can be daunting because we don’t always know where to start. In this workshop, we will learn how mind maps can provide a basis for creative process and give us a way to root our stories. We will start the session with a multimedia presentation of Margaret’s new book, Where I End, and You Begin. By the end of the workshop, we aim to have a mind map you can take to generate more work and possibly one piece of poetry or prose.

Bring any ideas for telling your story. This can include images, artifacts, or just your memories. No writing experience required. All materials will be provided, but everyone is welcome to bring their own writing tools if desired.

About the Facilitator

Margaret Albaugh is a Chinese American visual artist with a focus on photographic works. She is also, sometimes, a writer. She has cats, children, and plants.

About the Book

Where I End, and You Begin is about motherhood and how the intersection of intergenerational traumas, social pressures, and internal narratives give rise to maternal rage and how fear of what we see in our children if we don’t change haunts us.

Looking for childcare so you can attend the workshop? We are hosting a Boba Buddies session for K-12 Asian youth happening at the same time in another room at The Hive. Get info and register here.
